In Praise of Workplace Health & Safety Network

The WSIB system is impossible for ordinary companies to navigate. We were so frustrated with the WSIB’s refusal to recognize that several claims were not due to workplace injuries or illnesses that in 2005 we engaged the services of Cézanne Charlebois.

Through her expertise with the WSIB appeals process, advanced communication skills, knowledge of physiology and her relentless perseverance, we have had the decisions in all of our most difficult cases overturned, resulting in 90% SIEF cost relief, improved NEER ratings and a refund of our WSIB 2007 surcharge of over $106,000. It has been an absolute pleasure working with Cézanne and I highly recommend her services.

Cézanne’s ability to dissect complex cases and educate our company on the WSIB system is unmatched by other companies offering the same service. Her contribution with claims management has significantly increased our WSIB rebates and structured our return to work program to encourage long term benefits.

Cézanne was instrumental in obtaining maximum relief for one of our most costly claims that lingered on our NEER statement for over 2 years. I would highly recommend her service for all matters relating to WSIB and workers compensation.

Cézanne Charlebois has provided training for our London Plant management and Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) members on effective Health and Safety programs, which included supervisory safety due diligence, the role of an effective JHSC and the IRS.

Cézanne’s energetic and engaging training style coupled with her strong working legal knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act provided for a highly interactive and successful training session. We received strong positive feedback from our employees that they enjoyed the interactive and useful training session.

Construction employers really do need assistance to navigate the WSIB system. Especially because the CAD-7 Experience Rating system is so punishing and costly to employers. Charlebois Associates was able to obtain cost relief on one of our most expensive claims.

Currently, they are working on a transfer of costs for one of our employees who was seriously injured on the job because of another employer’s error. If successful, that will result in a cost removal from our CAD-7 statement. They are available when you need them (even on Super Bowl Sunday) to help you correctly fill out the Form 7 or a Critical Injury Report to the MOL. I highly recommend that you contact Charlebois Associates for assistance with your WSIB claims.

Cézanne Charlebois and her staff have exceptional problem solving skills and have always exceeded our expectations. They take the time required to thoroughly understand the mandate before beginning research. They then work closely with our staff to create the strategy, tactics and details of the solution and implementation. Best of all – they listen.

Mark has taught three (3) courses for the City of Port Colborne over the past few months. He upgraded our employee’s skill levels in scissor lifts, boom trucks and front end loaders. Mark has that rare gift of being able to blend humour with technical knowledge and practical expertise. He was able to motivate adult learners, some of whom have not been in a classroom for over twenty (20) years, but they left Mark’s course excited and happy and eager to put their newfound knowledge to use.

I would not hesitate in recommending Mark Wood to anyone in need of the best health and safety training available.

Mark combines traditional classroom techniques, his own unique sense of humour and personality, and he breaks up the sessions by interspersing video clips that are topical and funny. He has the perfect balance for teaching complacent workers who “know-it-all” and his experience really shows by how well he reads the mood of the class and the individual personalities of each diverse group he has to face.

Your staff will feel fortunate that they have had the opportunity to have Mark Wood as their instructor.

Best regards,
Randy Chamberlain C.H.R.P.
Health & Safety Coordinator
City of Port Colborne

I just wanted to thank you again for all your help and patience. I never would have done as well had you not been so helpful and supportive. I was definitely out of my comfort zone but you went the extra mile to make me feel that everything would turn out okay. I hope your supervisors appreciate the value you add to the company. I have never been to a course before where the instructor was so involved in making sure we were all on the same page and doing well.

I slept well that night, and felt such a relief. I hope you are the instructor for our phase II.

This letter is my personal recommendation for Mark Wood. He was retained to assist us with a Work Well Audit by the WSIB. With mark’s assistance, SMI passed the Work Well Audit and improved our initial score of 54.3% to 86.8%.

During the brief time that he spent with us, Mark adapted to our work style very quickly. I found him to be consistently pleasant, tackling all assignments with dedication and a smile. He is a take-charge person who is able to present creative ideas and communicate the benefits of those ideas. It was a pleasure working with him.

Mark was an asset to us during the Work Well Audit. He successfully assisted us with the implementation of many health and safety policies and procedures, he performed workplace inspections and conducted training sessions. He was well prepared to assist with all of these requirements.

In addition to providing his expertise, Mark heard and understood our concerns. He adapted his initial plan to meet the needs of our company. I highly recommend Mark Wood.

I am writing this email as a result of attending the Health and Safety Certification training on March 28-30, 2011. I must confess, in the days leading up to the training dates, I complained to anyone who would listen. I did not want to go. I was voluntold that I was the chair of the H&S committee. Once at the training I decided since I had no choice, I would make a go of it. To my surprise I found the training to be rewarding. Mark, you were able to teach the class in a way that made it enjoyable – you made it a lot of fun. Your anecdotal stories helped the drive home the importance and necessity of following proper Health and Safety Procedures and its consequences. I actually understand the meaning and importance of Health and Safety, and the legal ramifications if the policies are not adhered to. I will take the lessons learned to my workplace with confidence and impart this new found wisdom to my colleagues. Thanks a million.
